Dealing With Difficulties At Work

March 23, 2020

There could be a huge variety of difficulties you face at work and depending on how you tackle them it can some leave you feeling down, anxious and uncertain of times ahead in your career. The important thing to remember is that there are always ways to deal with problems you may face and you are never alone, even if you feel like you are.

Let’s have a look at some of the difficulties you might face in your workplace:

Bullies

You might have thought that you would have seen the back of any bullies once you left your school years but unfortunately, you may be surprised to learn that you may come across bullies your entire life. Especially in the workplace. The best way to tackle this is to hold your head high and get on with your work if someone is continuous, discriminative or abusive in any way it’s best that you speak to management. If you feel like it’s management who are the problem, consider going higher or speak to your union. Bullying shouldn’t be tolerated in any circumstance, but sometimes it’s from lack of understanding so you could also try speaking to the person and explaining that what they’re saying or doing is hurting or affecting you.

Opportunities

Whether there are opportunities that you aren’t confident enough to take or there is a lack of them in your workplace it can lead to anxieties, job dissatisfaction and more. If you feel as though there are no opportunities to train, for promotion or for personal development, make sure you speak to your managers and see if this is likely to change in the future. If the answer is no then, unfortunately, you may need to look for opportunities elsewhere or look for other ways to improve your skill and personal development such as training at home through open learning. If it’s your confidence that I holding you back, ask for feedback from your manager and colleagues, this can be a great way of building up your confidence to take more opportunities in the workplace.

Stress

With high targets, deadlines, a stressful environment and the economic status to think about it’s no wonder that people sometimes experience stress in the workplace. It’s one of the most common things that people express about their work. There are ways that you can overcome this though. Try speaking to your manager, your colleagues and even family and friends about how you are feeling. Speak up surprisingly helps to take a weight off your shoulders. Switching off and putting an effort into relaxing when you are home is also a good way to tackle this. Try setting some time to one side at the end of the day to unwind, and really forget about the stresses of work. Really spend some time on yourself at the weekend and remember to use your annual leave.

These are just three of the stresses you may come across in the workplace, do you have any others that you could share in the comments below?
