Three Ways to Prevent Burglary Befalling Your Business

May 15, 2017

Whether your business works out of a tower of its namesake or whether it works out of a matchbox, it needs to be protected from criminals. It could be a market leader. It could be a startup. No matter what tier a business is on it needs to be protected. This is because there are criminals on every tier. There are those that think they have the tools and the know how to break into the biggest of businesses. There are those that think startups are easy pickings, which is why they target them. So, no matter what stage of its life your business is at, you need to protect it. Below are three general ways every business can do so.

Carry out a thorough risk assessment
Performing a security risk assessment is essential. In order to prevent a burglar targeting an area of your business and ransacking it you must first target that area. You should find the weak spots of your workspace. You should find the online areas of your business that are easy to access. And once you find them, you should begin to target them by drawing up ideas of how they can be strengthened. Only once these ideas have been drawn up can you then take the next step: putting your assessment into practice.
Leave no stone unturned in securing your premises
When it comes to securing your premises there is no room for error. You cannot leave a single area or aspect of it go by unsecured. For example, you should have the locks changed on every door in order to deter the old occupants, or possible assailants of them, gaining easy access to your building. It may seem like a drastic measure to take, but who’s to say spare keys weren’t created by the former occupants? Who’s to say these keys — either inadvertently or intentionally — haven’t fallen into the hands of burglar? You must really leave nothing to chance when it comes to securing your premises.
Make sure everybody is working towards the goal of security
Your employees should be working towards staying as safe and secure as possible at all times. Not only this but everybody, specifically those that you hire to protect you, should know the exact safety measures in place. To ensure your security team are as well versed in these measures as possible you should seek the services of security companies that will help train them. They will provide them with knowledge of the latest techniques in the field of security so that you, and your employees, can feel safe in your workspace.
Burglary can befall your business at all times — it can even befall it on its very first day. In fact, this would probably be the most opportunistic time for a burglar to target your business as they would deem it to be as vulnerable now as it ever will be again. If you don’t want to screw your business up within the first week, you should ensure its protection is at the forefront of your mind right off the bat.
