Office Hygiene For A Healthier Workplace

March 5, 2018

As an employer, it’s your responsibility to ensure that your company office is a safe place and fit for your workers to get on with their daily jobs without their health being put at risk. You have probably already got this sorted when it comes to the most obvious aspects of office safety. For instance, you will have no doubt removed any large hazards and set in place some important processes and best practices to ensure that no one is ever put at risk during their working day. But when was the last time you considered your office hygiene?
You need to make sure that your office is hygienic as possible so that germs and bacteria don’t get spread around. This will keep your employees a lot healthier at work. To make your office as hygienic as possible, just use these great tips.
Add Hand Dryers In The Bathrooms
One of the easiest ways for germs to spread from one person to another is on damp materials, such as towels. Just think about it – if lots of people are using the same towel to dry their hands on, it will quickly become a breeding ground for germs. So, you should ditch the towels in favour of handy dryers as there is no chance of people coming into contact with germs from others when they use them. Get some reduced-noise dryers so that they can’t be heard out in the office.
Encourage Employees To Disinfect Workspaces
Do you know how clean your laptop keyboard is? What about your telephone mouthpiece? We continually use these pieces of equipment, and all that touching means that they can quickly get dirty even though they don’t look it. So, it’s important that these surfaces are regularly disinfected. Buy some antibacterial wipes so your employees can wipe down their keyboards and phones at the end of each day.
This year has so far seen record levels of sickness in the workplace. Clearing workstations at the end of each day, will go a long way to reduce the spread of harmful bacteria or cross-contamination. Do you have issue with sickness in your office?
Offer Hand Sanitizers
As well as antibacterial wipes, you should also offer hand sanitizers to your employees. It’s not possible to kill all the germs on our hands even when we wash them, but sanitizing gels will get rid of the majority of nasty creepy crawlies that are invisible to the naked eye. Your employees can then sanitize their hands after going to the bathroom and before they eat their lunch and snacks.
Keep The Office Kitchen Clean
If you just let all of the dirty coffee cups, plates, and bowls build up in the kitchen, it will be a very dirty place indeed. Bugs will love it in there! So, try and keep on top of the office kitchen cleanliness. All of the surfaces and floors need to be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day as well. Your workers then don’t have to worry about catching any tummy bugs whenever they grab a cup of coffee or a mid-morning snack!

The hygiene in your office should be one of your main priorities. Pushing it front and centre will help you reduce the number of sick days that your employees take
