Warehouse Organisation Tips And Tricks
October 24, 2018
Office organisation is something which is always on our minds when it comes to creating a healthy working space and we spend a lot of time making sure that the office is the best it can be. However did you ever think of the warehouse? The warehouse is the beating heart of the business and organising this will help massively. Here are some easy organisation tips for the warehouse.
Use grids
If in doubt, grid it out. One helpful way to think about your warehouse is as a serious of grids. You can take one aisle at a time and make a grid which represents how many shelves you have and how many products are on each shelf. You can record the SKU number of each item on the grid and this means that when you want to grab an item for shipping to a customer you simply refer to your grid. It is a good idea to make the grid in excel so that you can update it.
Reduce pallets
When it comes to your warehouse and the way it operates you will likely have a certain way of doing things which involves using your own pallets for delivery. But what if you could get pallets through a company like National Pallets who will sort out shipping for you? You’ll save a lot of space and avoid having far too many pallets hanging around.
Rid yourself of boxes
When running a warehouse you will notice how many boxes you come across every single day and you will likely need to get rid of some of the boxes now and again to keep the warehouse tidy. A good tool to have would be a cardboard compressor which is a large machine which will crush all of your cardboard and paper to make it more manageable and easier to recycle. It is something which is a huge deal in a warehouse and can make a massive difference to your organisation.
Organise by season
When running a warehouse you will always have a side which is closer to the exit and which is closest to the packers who get items ready for posting. Make sure when you do get new items in for a season like Christmas that you put these items closer to the shipping area because these are items which are likely to be bought and these items will also likely need to be accessed easily by staff. It will save you a lot to aggro and make it easier to keep things on track.
Have a sale section close to the door
Make sure to do a similar thing to the sales items as you would with seasonal items and keep these near to the door so that as you get orders you can make sure the items are super easy to access and that they can be packed up and sent off to the customer much quicker than they would be otherwise. This is a super easy method to keep your warehouse organised and easy to control.
