How Do You Market Your Podcast?

August 2, 2019

It’s all good and well having a podcast that you’ve put a lot of time and effort into creating, but it won’t be worth all that much if there’s no-one listening to it. As such, a big part of the podcast game is connected to marketing (actually, this is true of virtually all businesses). But since your podcast is long and based on vocals, it can seem hard to market. So how do you do it? We take a look at a few ways below.

Social Media

It’s good to place yourself in the places where your target demographic hang out. And that, inevitably, will be on the social media sites. This is a great platform to market your podcast because there are so many different ways you can use the site to promote your podcast. You could post a short video of the podcast being recorded (ideally of a highlight moment); you can use the information from the podcast to create an infographic, if the topic lends itself well to that medium, and post that — people really do engage with infographics. Twitter and Facebook can also be used to spread the word about upcoming episodes, too.

Your Guest’s Fanbase

It’s unlikely that your podcast will just be an hour of you talking into a microphone. If you have guests on each episode, then you can use their popularity as a way to build hype about your podcast. It’s likely that if you’re inviting them onto your podcast that they must have something interesting about them! And his or her followers will be interested in hearing them speak on your channel. Make sure you get your guests to promote the episode that they’re on.

In the Real World

We think of podcasting — and, in fact, all online things — as belonging entirely in the digital world, but this isn't true. The people who use the internet are the same ones who walk downtown. As such, it’s recommended that you take a look at marketing your podcast in the real world, too. Invest in a printer, some ink from 123Inkjets.com.au, and make up some flyers to hand out on the street. You’ll reach a whole new customer base. You can even look at hosting an episode of your podcast in an outdoor space — not only will it give your podcast a little bit of energy, but it’ll also gain the interest of people passing by.

Showcase Your Content

It’s asking a lot, trying to get people to commit to downloading and listening to an hour-long podcast if they know next to think about it. So make sure there’s an easy way for people to find out. You should start with your website, which you can use to post basic information about your podcast, short clips, and customer reviews. This will likely be the first interaction that a person has with your podcast, so make sure that what they’re seeing is impressive and intriguing enough to make them find out more.
