5 Things To Consider When Buying Construction Machinery
August 15, 2019
Thinking of buying some construction machinery? Such equipment can be very expensive and so it’s important that you make the right purchase. Here are just a few important things to consider before you buy anything.
Funding
Few companies have the savings to buy construction equipment outright. Most companies have to rely on a loan or crowdfunding. Work out how much you’re willing to spend on purchasing equipment and then decide how you will fund it. If you do opt for a loan, carefully consider the interest rates and repayment costs. If you’re seeking investment to expand your business and buy equipment, think carefully about the shares you’re willing to give out. Some sellers may often in-house finance schemes allowing you to pay in installments.
Age and previous usage
New equipment can be very expensive. As a result, many companies buy construction machinery second-hand. When opting for this latter option, you’ll need to consider the condition of the equipment. If it’s old and had a lot of previous usage, it’s likely that the machine will have more wear and tear. As a result, there could be more frequent repairs around the corner. Buying second-equipment that’s barely used and only a couple years old could save you money in the long run.
Fuel economy
You should also consider the fuel costs. Different types of machinery can run on different types of fuel. The likes of red diesel are relatively cheap and effective forms of fuel – finding a machine that runs on this fuel could advantageous. Generally, newer machines will be more economical than older machines, although this could still be worth double checking.
Training required
You’ll need to be able to easily train your staff how to use your equipment. Something that is too complex could require a lot of in-depth training. You and your employees may even need to go on a course to operate certain machinery. Always grab the opportunity to test the machinery for ease of use if the opportunity is offered.
Seller’s reputation
You should also consider the seller’s reputation. A seller with a good reputation is much more likely to offer good quality equipment. Always read reviews online so that you know you’re buying equipment from a trusted company. Check that they have a professional website and look out for perks like warranties (if a seller offers a free warranty, it shows that they are confident in the reliability of their machines).
