Digital marketing is one of the most critical activities that a firm can undertake. It’s what allows firms to gain traction on the internet and showcase their products to the world. 

But gone are the days when doing a bit of SEO will shoot your firm to the stars. You’ve got to think a little out of the box. 

The reasons for this are well understood. The internet is a much more competitive place than it once was. There are millions of businesses all jostling for prominence and trying all sorts of strategies to get ahead of their rivals. 

What’s interesting is that some companies have managed to pull it off. Perhaps the most successful of all is price comparison websites. These businesses didn’t exist a couple of decades ago, but today they’re among the most successful in the world. And the way that they did it had everything to do with digital marketing. 

The way that your company succeeds on the internet today is by thinking outside of the box. You can’t just rebrand what your competitors are doing with your logo and hope it will sell. You need something original that will speak to customers in a way that other brands in your sector do not. 

Coming up with something original is difficult. You have to have a moment of creative genius – something which is vanishingly rare. But there are ways to sidestep this tricky problem. Check out the following. 

Start Saying Thank You In Unique Ways

Saying thank you to your customers is vital in business. But the way you do it can have a profound effect on how your audience perceives you. The better your gratitude, the more likely people will want to stick with your company. 

Let’s say that you sell jewelry on Etsy. One of the things that you can do is keep a record of customer addresses and then send real thank you cards at the end of the year to your most lucrative customers. That’s great. What’s even better (and a little bit more out of the box) is organizing a thank you event where you take your top customers and do something incredible for them. Create a private event on Eventbrite for your customers and give them the digital VIP treatment.

Create A Selfie Campaign

Digital marketing is all about connecting with customers in new ways. And the most successful campaigns are almost always those where customers get involved to some degree. 

Getting customers involved can be a challenge, but one of the simplest and most effective ways of getting people to share is to get them to do selfies while using your product. If you’re a fashion brand, get people to do selfies wearing your clothes and share them on social media. If you’re a sports brand, you can do the same for people wearing your kit outdoors or on the pitch. The possibilities are nearly endless.
