4 Ways To Minimise Your Losses When Moving Office

August 27, 2019

When your business starts taking off and the workload increases, you’ll eventually be forced to take on some more employees and move into a bigger office space to house them all. Most business owners dread moving offices because they have to organize the whole thing and it means shutting the business down and losing money for a few days until everything is back up and running again. But it’s only as hard as you make it and if you plan and execute your office move in the right way, you can get it over and done with quickly, so you can get the business going and avoid any major losses. Here’s how you can make your office move run like clockwork.

Be Realistic About Your Office Needs

If you move from a tiny office into a huge place that all needs to be set up, you’ll have a lot of work on your hands. The thing is, you probably don’t need to make a move that drastic anyway. It’s only natural to get excited when the business starts performing well but it’s important that business owners learn to be patient and accept the fact that you aren’t going to turn into a huge business overnight. You need to build things up slowly and expand within your means. If you’re realistic about your office needs, you’ll save some money and it will make the move so much easier because it’s a gradual expansion, not a complete overhaul.

Move Essentials And Get Working Again

Limiting the amount of downtime is a priority here because you’re losing money while the business is closed. That’s why you need to work out what your essentials are; that’s everything you need to get the business functioning again. On the day of the move, put all of the non-essentials into secure storage containers from a company like Davlav and then load up the essentials in the moving van. Once the business is operating again, you can move the rest of the stuff in and set it up.

Prioritize The IT Team

Whatever your business is, it relies heavily on the IT team. Your employees will be using software of some kind to do their job and if it isn’t functioning properly, they can’t get back to work. When you move everything over to a new office and set it all up again, there are bound to be some teething problems. That’s why you need to prioritize your IT team and make sure that they’re on hand to iron out any major issues so your employees can work effectively.

Label Everything Properly

When it comes to unpacking, you need to be quick. It’s a lot easier if you actually know what is in all of the boxes. If you have a huge pile of unmarked boxes, you’ll have to go through every single one in turn. That’s why you need to label the boxes properly so you can unpack everything in the right order and get it all set up quickly.

Follow these basic tips and you should be able to minimise your losses when you move office.
