5 Tips to Help Streamline Your Business
October 6, 2015
As a business grows and expands, it’s easy for it to become too weighty and out of control. If that sounds familiar, it might be time to streamline your business with these 5 tips.
Don’t be a Slave to Technology
Of course, there are lots of ways in which technology can help your business. For a start, it can make things easier by letting you do your banking and accounting online. And that’s just one example. But still, you don’t want to become a slave to the technology around you. It should be there to help you not hinder you. If you spend half your day checking your emails or trying to work out how to use the latest office gadget, then you’ll be wasting time, not saving it. So, conduct an overview of how you use technology in the office.
Cut Out the Middlemen
These days, it’s possible to go directly to the consumer and cut out all the people and companies in the middle. Those middlemen tend to make money for doing not much at all, so if you can avoid them, you should. So, instead of getting your products stocked in certain shops, why not try to sell online? This could be a far more profitable way of selling your goods in the long-term if you’re able to connect with your target customers and offer them a fair and reasonable price. It’s worth a try, at least!
Use a VoIP System
Are you still struggling by with an old phone system in your office? They are costly and old-fashioned, so why not upgrade to a VoIP system. These are phones that work in the exact same way as normal phones to the naked eye. But, in fact, they use the internet rather than the landline to make calls. This means the charges are much, much lower than on normal phones. And if you make a phone call to someone else who’s using a VoIP system, there’ll be no charge at all.
Outsource
Some business owners are reluctant to outsource, but it can be a great way to streamline your business. It reduces your expenditure because it’s always cheaper to outsource to an external company than to hire people with specific skills and experience. The company you outsource to will be specialists in their field too, so you’ll know that you’ll be in safe hands. And if you’re not happy with the service you get, it’s simple and easy to cancel the contract. Things like inventory management, accounts and human resources are most commonly outsourced.
Hold Fewer Meetings
Meetings often seem like they’re worthwhile. But if you actually stopped to ask yourself what you achieved in your last meeting, the answer might not be so clear. Unless you’re sure that your staff and your business are benefiting from holding regular meetings, you should hold less of them. There’s literally no point in holding meetings for the sake of it. So, don’t just do it because you read that you should do in some old business guidance book. The chances are those meetings could be wasting time – and time is money!
