6 Ways To Be More Efficient In Business

August 14, 2019

Do you think that things could be improved with the day to day running of your business? While things might be running smoothly enough, there is always room for improvement and one of the ways to see more results is to improve the efficiency of your business which you can do in the following ways:

Automate Tasks

It’s not a luxury anymore to automate; it’s a necessity to compete in business. Whatever you can automate, do it. It will save your employees time and will allow them to do more productive tasks that require critical thinking or a human touch. While it might cost a little more to implement automated processes in the beginning, in the long run, it will save you money as well as increase business efficiency.

Encourage Face-to-Face Communication

While sending an email or a quick message on instant chat message to a colleague might seem like a more efficient way of getting an answer, often it can have the opposite effect. Go back to the old ways as face-to-face interaction really speeds up the process of solving a problem, answering a question, or getting something important clarified.

Get The Experts In

Sometimes you can’t see what’s right in front of you and you need another pair of eyes, an outsider looking in to tell you where you could make changes. Getting a professional or even another team to come in and look at where you could make operational improvement could be exactly what you need. Someone else will be able to look at things objectively to create better performance and embed the systems, tools, and methods to sustain improvement.

Limit Interruptions

Try to schedule as many of the week's meetings on the same day rather than scattering them throughout the week, and then block out time on your calendar for uninterrupted work as this may help your employees focus better, and work more efficiently as a result. As well as this, avoid constant email alerts, chat message pop-ups, and notifications so use tools like Inbox Pause to reduce interruptions and may help you work more efficiently.

Don’t Multitask

People often think that if they multitask, then they’ll get more done, however, this isn’t necessarily the truth. Try focusing on just one task until you’ve completed it as this may actually help you to execute the project, rather than working on so many different things that nothing ever gets finished.

Know When To Say No

You will no doubt be interrupted on an almost daily basis with people asking you if they can have a word or if you’ve got a minute. These unscheduled meetings are the ones that distract from productivity and are bad for office efficiency. One minute is never one minute; it is more like 15 at least, so it turns out to be an inefficient use of time. If you can try to schedule quick meetings with a designated time span, and stick to the topic, you need to discuss accomplishes the goals of keeping the meeting short, scheduled, and face-to-face, or just say No until it’s more convenient for you.
