Offer them benefits
You can't just treat your employees like machines that you put wages into and get productivity out of. Taking their work for granted is not only unfair but dangerous to the success of your business as a whole. If you want to make sure that you're always getting the most out of your employees, offering them rewards, employee discounts, and other benefits are some of the best things that you can do. Making your employees feel appreciated is essential to help make sure that they stay as motivated as possible.
Encourage equality
Each and every one of your employees has a right to feel safe and secure at work. Things like discrimination and harassment are unacceptable and if you let even the slightest hint of those things slide in your business then you're letting your employees down in a serious way. You need to make sure that you're always encouraging a culture of equality and that you have a zero-tolerance policy towards any kind of harassment or discrimination in your workforce. Your business should be a place that is safe for absolutely every single person in it.
Far too many business owners just end up thinking of their employees as nothing more than another useful resource. The reality is that your employees are people with needs, desires, and limitations that you need to take into account. Your relationship with them should always be one of both give and take. If you're not making sure that your employees are benefits from your relationship just as much as you and your business are then you're doing them a serious disservice.
