Common Mistakes Made When Creating An App For Your Business

July 9, 2018

More and more businesses are creating apps, enabling them to engage with new and existing customers and monetise their business. While apps can most certainly help you to take your business to the next level, you need to make sure you go about the process in the correct manner. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the common errors people make when having apps created with their business.
Developing on a number of platforms – While it can be very tempting to ensure your app reaches as many people as possible by getting it developed on virtually every platform that is available, this is not a good idea. It is better to master one or two platforms before you move onto the rest. This is because we learn a lot from user behaviour, and so you should make the most of this data before you start moving onto other platforms.
Poor testing strategies – The testing phase is of huge importance. If you look online, you will see that there are a lot of resources on mobile app development and testing strategies. Despite this, there are so many people who do not test their apps correctly. It is better for you to discover problems before your users do. A thorough testing phase is of paramount importance.
Failing to plan – We have all heard the saying that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail, and this is certainly the case when it comes to mobile app development. You need to have a comprehensive plan, which covers everything from why you are creating the app and who your target audience is to why these people would want the app and what their current app habits are.
Focusing too much on downloads – Prioritising new downloads may seem like the right thing to do once you have created an app. However, most experts would tell you that retention is way more important. Let’s say you get a huge number of downloads, but no one actually uses your app, this cannot be classified as a success, can it?
Including too much – Last but not least, the fifth and final mistake that a lot of business owners make when it comes to app development is including too much. There is often an inclination to want to put everything into the app, i.e. everything that is on the website. However, this is not what an app is about. It is for streamlining the experience and providing users with a quick and easy way to accomplish tasks.
Hopefully, you now have a greater understanding regarding some of the most common blunders that people make when having an app developed for their business. If you can stay away from the mistakes that have been discussed above, you can give yourself a great chance of achieving app success. Good luck!
