Encouraging Happier, Healthier Employees & Why It's Important

December 20, 2018

If you own a business, one of the best things you’ll set out to do is make your employees healthier and happier. This will be beneficial for your team as individuals but also for your business as a whole.
Healthier, happier employees have many benefits in the workplace. First of all, they are less likely to take sick days, so your business can continue trading seamlessly. Not only that, they will be more engaged in the work, producing more work to a better standard. The team will also work together better, so both teamwork and individual projects are likely to be better. Oh, and let’s not forget about your business reputation. Your employees can be ambassadors for your business, but don’t expect them to talk you up to anybody who will listen if they aren't being treated properly. When you treat them right and ensure they are healthy and happy at work, they will be more likely to recommend the products and services that you provide.
Your employees really are an important group of people – just as important as customers are to your organization! So, let’s talk about how you can encourage healthier and happier employees now you know why it’s important.
Show Your Employees You Care By Creating A Healthy Work Environment
A healthy work environment ensures your employees stay healthy while they’re at work and take as few sick days as possible. Make sure the work environment is clean – you’ll need to hire somebody to do this, as your employees should only be expected to clean their own desks and not the whole workplace. This can take them away from their important tasks. You should also visit Integrated Air Systems and similar sites to make sure your workplace is as healthy as possible. Then, when you’ve completed the more serious stuff, you can make sure you’re letting in natural light, providing healthy refreshments, and so on. These things really do make a big difference, even if they don’t seem that important to you at first.
But An Emphasis On Both Physical And Mental Health
While physical health is important, it’s also important to make it known that you understand mental health, too. More and more employees are needing to take mental health days from work as they have problems like stress, anxiety, and depression. Just because you can’t see these things doesn’t mean they aren't important, so make sure you take the steps to help your employees improve both physical and mental health. Incorporating an employee support system could be a good idea.
Praise and Reward Your Employees
Make sure you’re praising and rewarding your employees both as a team and individually. Doing something as simple as this can make them far more engaged in their work – many employees site no recognition as the reason for not feeling motivated at work.
Get Feedback From Them And Listen
Make sure you create ways to gather anonymous feedback, and actually use it to improve. Listening will go a very long way
