Have You Inspected Your Safety Systems At Work?

November 21, 2018

Day in and day out we walk by the same old fire extinguisher, fire alarms, and scuffed wires. All the time we don’t really know if they will work in the event that your business ever gets involved in a fire. We hope that the systems in place will kick in and that all of our employees will be able to make it safely out of the building in time. This also means that you should constantly make sure you have a great procedure in place so that you can work together with all your safety systems. Train your employees to evacuate and also make sure everyone is accounted for while being timed. Once the timer is activated employees have a sense of urgency and they know that if this was a real-life scenario that, flames and smoke would be growing all around them. We’ve all seen the horrific images of commercial buildings on fire and employees having to jump down from great heights injuring themselves and possibly worse. Here’s how you should text your safety systems in your office.
Wet weekend
Plan a weekend that you will be alone in the office. Buy some plastic sheets and cover all the electrical equipment properly. Turn the power off from the mains so that nothing is ignited during the test. Working with a fire department you should test your sprinklers once every 2 years. Fire departments actually recommend doing this so that the metal fixtures don’t get stuck and or frozen over time. You’ll also see where there are any faulty spots in your system. You could have all the sprinklers but one working. You might have multiple sprinklers that are old and rusted, or their design is outdated and not as effective as modern standards. You might get a bit wet, but the fire department will give your office a new safety rating so you’re keeping within the law.
Sound the alarm
Fire alarms are much the same way, they need to be tested at least twice a year. It's no good having one alarm work but all the rest fail. If your office is large and you employ hundreds of employees then everyone needs to be able to hear the alarm loud and clear. Considering hiring a company such as Analogue Electrics that knows how to install modern fire alarm systems. They will design your system, test it, go over the costs and planning with you and then install it. From this point on they will handle all the administration work such as with the law to make sure your office is given the green light for safety. Any issues around the year, you can always call for maintenance to occur to your system. They’ll check your break glass and the smoke detectors all around the office to make sure they are working together.
Don't ever take your fire safety system for granted. Just like anything that is left inanimate for a long time, it can become frozen and needs to be woken up from time to time. Conduct safety drills every year at least twice, and install the latest systems for your employees to feel safe.
