Interesting Ways to Boost Productivity in Your Business

September 17, 2018

Maybe profits have begun to fall, or maybe things are going well- but you just want to keep on improving and growing your business. Either way, it’s smart to regularly take a look at your productivity levels and ensure your company is working efficiently. When you think of boosting workflow, it’s easy to think of putting more hours in, asking staff to do overtime or micromanaging them. However, this isnt the case. In fact, putting extra pressure on your employees could lead to stress and actually make your work. There are plenty of other ways you can boost workflow, increase productivity and improve profits that you might not have immediately thought of. Here are some ideas!
Have software or equipment custom designed
Technology is ever improving, which is great news for us as business owners. New equipment and technology gives us plenty of flexibility and the ability to create exciting new products, but we’re still often limited by what we can do. One way to get around this is to have bespoke technology created for our business. It could be having a machine built from scratch, or adapted to fit our needs. The additon of a pipeline strainer to a machine requiring filtration for example will make it more effective and prevent breakdown. Having software created specifically for our business means there are no workarounds needed and everything gets done quickly and efficiently. These things might be expensive, but the boost of productivity and more work being able to be done in a shorter time means they’ll pay for themselves eventually.
Allow staff to work from home
Rsearch has shown time and time again that micromanaging employees doesnt improve their work. It’s a waste of your time and it also puts pressure on them. As the boss, you need to find the right people for the job and then let them get on with their tasks. Since most business is now conducted online, many company owners are realising that letting their staff work remotely (even some of the time) has fantastic benefits. It can boost worker’s mood and reduce stress- letting them work from home allows flexibliity and they have their own comforts nearby. Assign the workload for each day and set the deadline, as long as the work is being completed this could be a great way to go in your business. Hiring remote employees also allows you to take on the best talent for your business too, as you’re not limited to the pool of applicants that can physically get to your workplace.
Improve your office
If you do have employees in your office, even if it’s only some of the time, then it should be a pleasant space to work from. This might not be something you’d instantly consider when you think about boosting productivity but it’s something to think about. Research has shown that factors like the right layout, plenty of natural light, living plants and even the colour blue can boost productivity at work. Redecoration and a switch around of the layout could make a big difference.
