Knowing Where Your Cashflow Is Going

October 18, 2017

Cashflow makes or breaks business, literally. For a small business, it’s the most important part of the business plan to bring in, which means there’s a lot of emphasis put on knowing what’s coming in, and what’s going out. You’re on your startup way, and you’re getting to grips with everything you need to know, but the idea of revenue is always at the back of your mind. So you’ve got to plan, but even that’s hard to do when you have no clue where a cashflow starts and where it ends. So we need a few tips for coping with that.
Develop a Proper Projection
Positive cash flow is something we all aim for, but don’t let yourself down by immediately shooting for it. It’s an unfortunate reality that we have to spend money to make money, and therefore we have to abide on a monthly basis.
There’s a lot of benefits to having a cashflow projection on your side, and most of them come from the fact that it’s a plan for what to do and what not to do for your future. But your expenses are never going to be set pieces you can handle effectively month by month, and that means there’s a certain amount of jeopardy in determining your cash projection.
Try a New Management System
If you haven’t inputted one yet, make sure to tick that off next on your to do list. Make sure every customer that comes into your store, or uses your services, pays their dues on time. If you need to invoice a client, make sure they know how to use an invoice and that your template is clear and concise.
Try using software to collect and keep track of all the money you’re owed, and all the payments you’ve received. Auto billing is something big business has set up for every time a customer inputs an email address on an account information field, so take leaf out of their book. Similarly, if you know what you’re bringing in already because it’s all set out in front of you, rather than filed away, you have a good predictor for what you can make next month and so on.
Bring in the Heavies
Sometimes we’re about to rip our hair out just looking at expenses compared to revenue, and the taxes that can accompany the money we make. Thus, we need some big guns to sort the problem out for us.
And that means you need a professional. Keep an eye out for accountants for your business, as they have all the experience and knowhow you so desperately need, and can’t gain quickly, no matter how hard you try.
Even if you think you’re not ready, you might be closer to your goal than it seems. There’s a lot of advice you can go in search of when it comes to finding cashflow solutions, and thus business can get a lot simpler. Make no mistake, it’ll be hard, but not impossible!
