Less Used Marketing Methods Not to Overlook
September 20, 2019
With the rise of the internet and modern technology, the way we promote businesses has changed dramatically. Social media, video marketing and content marketing are all heavily utilised where we all spend so much time on our devices, and much of our shopping is now done online. While online marketing methods are vital for just about any kind of business, there’s more we can consider for our overall marketing strategy. Some of the below strategies are often overlooked when it comes to modern business, but depending on what you’re selling they can be great ways to promote your company.
Expos and trade shows
When it comes to marketing, in most cases you have to go out and find the right customers to promote to which can be tricky and time consuming. However, when you go to a trade show, everyone attending will be looking for businesses like yours. This puts you in a fantastic position to speak to customers and clients who are already interested in what you do, allowing you to show the product in person and answer any questions. If your product requires a little more explanation or a demonstration then trade shows are especially good.
Cold calling and canvassing
Cold calling and canvassing might seem like outdated marketing techniques, but in some businesses they can still be highly effective. In the case of door to door sales, paying using a commision based model keeps costs right down for you- you only pay your salespeople when they actually sell. For cold calling, things like powercall training can improve your salespeople’s pitch and give your sales a real boost. While cold calling can seem like nuisance, done the right way it can be effective and is relatively cheap for you as a company.
Posters, flyers and billboards
Posters, flyers and billboards are some of the earliest and most traditional types of marketing, and with the rise of internet marketing many considered them to be outdated and unnecessary. But it’s not that clear cut, as with some kinds of businesses, these methods are some of the most effective. If for example you’re a local company and mainly selling products in your local area then advertising all over the internet is pointless. While you should still have an online presence, flyers and leaflets in your area for things like local cafes, florists, launderettes and other businesses that only those living nearby would use are effective. They’re relatively cheap, and if you place them correctly offer a good ROI. For example, if you’re a food establishment selling cheap meals then placing your flyers near a student accommodation could make sense. If you sell baby products then placing them in local nurseries will expose them to the right audience.
Have you considered any of the above marketing methods?
