Mentor Yourself For Better Business
July 22, 2019
How comfortable are you talking about your business? When people ask you how it’s going, do you feel wracked with anxiety as you think about all the things that are going wrong or could go wrong or are you confident that everything is flowing as it should?
At every step of the way there will be problems and challenges to overcome when it comes to running a business but how you deal with them is the key to a happier working life.
In this blog we’re not looking at business solutions but rather, you solutions. Practical steps you can take to help think more clearly, act more decisively and problem solve more efficiently when it comes to your business. Whether you clean windows or build special purpose machines, everyone can do with a little mentoring from time to time.
Separation
When you’ve started your business from scratch, it’s very easy to feel it’s as much a part of you as your own family. You feel responsible for every single decision and outcome and you worry that you won’t make the right choices.
Worry and fear do nothing to help you make the right choices, so it’s time to take a step back and see your business as the separate entity it is. Often people are so overwhelmed by the worry of making the wrong choice, they fail to make any choice at all.
If that sounds like you then you might benefit from the practice of playing out worse case scenarios. Take a look at the decision in front of you and consider what might happen if you choose one option over the other. Play it forward logically in your head without emotion but on a fact-by-fact basis. Soon you’ll see that even in the worst case scenario is something you can handle and it might become even clearer where the right choice lies.
Ask For Help
And not just from business experts but from those close to you who will help you see where your imagination and anxiety might be holding you back from making great choices. If you’re still being kept awake at night, consider going to see a therapist who might be able to give you some even better advice on dealing with anxiety and talk you through some practical applications.
If you need it, talk to a business management consultant about the needs of your business and come up with a plan of action. When you have something concrete in front of you, you’ll start to feel like you’re back in control of your destiny.
Keep an eye on your physical and mental health. A fully functioning, healthy body will help you feel more relaxed and help battle feelings of stress, while good mental health is the key to making decisions without the need to second guess everything you do.
When either of these states is out or whack, you should take steps to address the issues sooner rather than later and get back to the top of your game, taking your business forward with confidence.
