Moving Your Business: Tips To Help

June 23, 2017

Anyone in business will tell you that location is everything. Yes, we live in a world that is becoming more and more digital, but that has not affected the importance of where your business is, whatsoever. Having a prime piece of real estate will increase the amount of customers you have come through the door, help you in your search for top talent, reducing the pressure on your revenue and enable you to grow your business. Who knows, it could even help you turn your competition into customers, if you get it right.
Unfortunately, moving your business to a better location can be hard work. It requires time, effort, stress and money. As such, we have come up with some tips and tricks to ensure your decision to relocate goes as smoothly as possible.
Do And Do Not Need
When it comes to moving, a great way to reduce the cost and time it takes is to go through your equipment and company possessions to see exactly what you do and do not need. Old technology, outdated equipment, office furniture, supplies, cash registers; whatever. Instead of paying to have these moved, why not sell them on or give them to charity; not only will you feel good but you’ll get a tax break too.
Pack Yourself And Pack Early
Not packing until the last minute is going to cause you a serious headache. Instead, for the month leading up to your move, we recommend you dedicate a little bit of time each day toward the packing up process. This way it won’t be such an overwhelming job and you won’t have to juggle your business responsibilities with the pressing need to put things in boxes.
Get Better Removal Quotes
Some of the same rules apply in terms of getting a better quote, such as calling well in advance. However, we live in a world where disruptive companies can help us save a lot of money, and this is true in removals too. By using Shiply, you will have removal companies competing for your business, which means you can choose the one that most meets your needs, offers the right assurances and insurances, and gives you the best quote. What’s more, you can see what customer feedback they have got too.
Get Yourself A Sharpie
There is nothing worse than having everything arrive at your new premises and not knowing what is in what boxes. As such, pack with some order and then clearly mark what it is each box with a permanent marker pen. It is also worth numbering your boxes too. That way you can be sure that none of them got lost or misplaced in the moving process. The last thing you want to do is find out valuable hard drives have gone missing. Also, make a list of these boxes, or take photos of each one. That way you will have an easier time making a claim should something go wrong.
Tell the World About It
You are moving to a new location and that means you will want to let your existing clients, customers, suppliers and anyone else know about it. This means updating your address and contact numbers on everything from stationery to business cards, the website to official company records. Other people you will need to inform include the post office knows, the bank, insurance companies, creditors and everyone else that falls under that bell curve. It is also worth Googling your business, just to see what business directories it comes up on. That way you can update this outdated information too.
