Is Your Office Space As Capable As You Are?

January 23, 2019

Whether you’ve got far too many customers than your current setup lets you deal with, or you’re just unable to find your way in and out of all the cubicles and wires littering the floor of your office, it’s time to step your game up. After all, your business chain of command is only as strong as its weakest link, and if that weak spot is the working environment, there’s no point in letting it persist on as it is.
This space is clean and tidy, but is it functional enough to keep up with common modern office needs?
Is Your Office too Dark? Is the Space too Bright?
The office you’re working in needs to have the right atmosphere to it. It needs to be a place you feel comfortable in, at least, and cozy in at best. After all, your office has been cultivated from the ground up by your hard work and ideas, and it feels like a second home.
And when you’re at home, you wouldn’t find yourself sitting in a dark room, tapping away at your computer whilst straining your eyes. And you wouldn’t have blaring and harsh overhead lights, making the room around you feel so cold and exposed. So why include these elements at work? They’re not helpful to the working environment, and will make it a lot harder to get through the day with all your energy intact – you’ve got a lot of work to do, and you need to be on top of your game, so don’t let yourself underestimate these factors.
Make sure you have plenty of natural lighting available at least, and always have your office blinds open whilst the sun is up. Try to limit your exposure to artificial light, but be sure to have desk lamps and standing lights available in individual cubicles when the light dips too low. These aren’t expensive to install either, so it will be one of the easiest methods you can employ to improve the capability of your office.
Do You Need a Better Traffic Flow?
The traffic flow in your office needs to be the moves quickly throughout the day, and you need an office that can stand up to the wear and tear of heavy footfall like this. After all, there’s a lot of people coming in and out of your office on a daily basis, and you’re going to need to uphold your company aesthetic and functionality as business goes on. It makes for a much better working environment, and you’re just going to have more and more employees, customers, and business contacts entering your work space as time goes on.
Maybe you need to look into commercial fitouts, seeing as there’s a lot of new units and office dividers that need installing. To make sure there’s a proper traffic flow and direction in and out, using a professional designer is one of the best ways to both maximise on the space at your disposal, and be non-invasive about the methods to divert footfall. After all, you don’t want to be greeted with a wall as soon as you walk into an office, and it doesn’t make a great first impression.
Is Your Office Comfortable Enough?
We touched on this idea above, but we need to explore it a little more in depth. After all, if you’re comfortable at work, you can maximise productivity, and you’ll always look forward to coming in to do your job. And when it comes to keeping your staff on side, the more comfortable and supported they feel, the better.
Be sure to use desks that have adjustable height desks, as well as ergonomic chairs with back and lumbar support for anyone spending upwards of four hours sitting at a desk. You’ll also want an office that has a good amount of space for both the human elements and all the wires and machinery you’ve got to fit in too – make sure none of these wires are laid across the floor in the direct walkways, and that any and all equipment like printers and tower systems are secured in place on top of and below the desks you use. Comfort and security go hand in hand in the business world, and you need to start inside of the house to make sure your practices ste safe and stable outside of it as well.
Your office needs to be as capable as you are. Make sure you’re changing it too as your needs grow.
