Tips For Running A Business From Home
March 9, 2021
The last year has seen more of us than ever have to run our businesses from home rather than our offices. If you have moved back to your office, it is likely with a reduced amount of staff and that many are working from home. If this is the case it can leave you wondering the best way to manage them. It is a completely different way of working and you want to ensure that your business or product is impacted as little as possible as a result. The last thing you want is your company to lose money, your employees to lose motivation and you being in a sticky situation. If you are having to run your business from home or to deal with employees that are now remote who weren’t before, then here are some top tips.
Check in with your team regularly
A lot of people thrive off contact so ensure you get in touch with your team regularly. This could be in the form of an email, a monthly phone call, via slack or something else. It is a good idea to set up regular Skype or Zoom meetings so you can all speak about what you are working on, how you can improve on anything and what the plans are for the week up ahead. It is a good idea to have a meeting first thing on a Monday or a Friday so you know where you are at. You could also run virtual events to incentivise your employees and keep up their motivation.
Have set working hours
It can be too hard to not have proper working hours when you are at home. You can find that you are working 12, 13 or even 14 hour days as there is no physical way to show you are leaving the office and therefore leaving your work behind. Try to set alarms and give yourself enough regular breaks throughout the day. Remember your mental wellbeing is important too.
Make sure of your technology
If you haven’t yet invested in cloud technology then now is the time to do so. Look into SAP solutions that can help with support for your IT and for your customers and ensure that you have a cloud system that can be accessed by all your employees. If you are still stuck in the days of sending emails with hefty attachments or sending memory sticks in the post then it is time to get with the times. There are many options out there for cloud technology so it is important you find out the best one for you, your business and your budget.
