Ways Your Business Can Make Employees More Intelligent

September 18, 2018

They say a happy employee is a hard-working employee. This is true, but hard work doesn’t always equate to efficiency and productivity gains. In fact, it doesn’t even make the employee a better worker, just doing more, more often. The complex world of business and people management is so challenging sometimes that one can start to believe radical and effective change is a daydream. It takes time to change employees from being hard workers to, intelligent workers. Both are needed if you want to become a monstrous force in your industry and indeed, the world at large. Knowledge is power, but strong character is required to wield this power. The more a boss shows trust in his or her workers, the more the staff members will have confidence in themselves to exercise their intelligence in everyday tasks. You need workers to be intuitive and make the right decisions without always being told what to do. That’s the secret to a business that shows the hallmarks of quality in every it does.
Have thinking sessions
This concept of thinking sessions is alien to many business owners. It's kind of alarming to hear that workers are just sitting around, thinking about the work they do, rather than actually doing it. That’s understandable, but what if they were allowed to analyze their own tasks, and what effect they have on the business during staff meetings? Staff meetings are already going over statistical data, sales targets, marketing tactics and much more. So, why can’t you have a segment of the meeting, where there are philosophical problems or questions that are figured out by your workforce? Asking questions like why does this color matter in a marketing team, or whether or not a sales team can pinpoint a change in the customers they interact with and why, will get them to think about what they do. Putting them more in turn with ‘why’ frees their mind to think as you do.
An intelligent picture
Everything comes in the form of data. From purchases, market trends, social media marketing, video and images sharing, price drops and rises, and then to gender biases, job titles and spending habits per family can be broken down into data. It's actually quite wonderful to know that everything can be made into an understandable figure and statistic. However, what your workers see is an unintelligible image of block data. Giving them Power BI training, will give them the ability to grab any amount of data and create it into an intelligent picture of charts, projections, and even individual profiles of consumers and consumer groups.
Reading is underrated
Let’s be honest, most of your employees probably go home and completely forget about work. They do have that right and they often should, to clear their mind and recharge for tomorrow. However, giving them some recommended reading for the weekend is not a bad idea. An article that is relevant to your industry and field, may keep them on their toes with regards to what is happening across the economic landscape.
A more intelligent employee is a more powerful employee. If you want productivity, don’t discount the saying, ‘work smart, not hard’. A hard-worker is commendable, but doing more doesn’t mean you’re achieving more. Stimulate your employees and get them to think about what they’re doing and the importance of their tasks.
