What To Do When Your Car Breaks Down

November 13, 2018

As a driver, there is nothing you want less than to end up in a situation where you have to pull over at the side of the road and switch on your hazard lights. But it’s a sad fact that we can’t really avoid in life and at one point or another in your life your car will break down for one reason or another. So today we are going to chat about what would happen if your car did break down, and what you need to do.
Pull over
Before you do anything else in this situation you need to ensure that your car is out of harm's way, and the best way to do this is to pull over to the side of the road or the hard shoulder if you are driving on a motorway. This will allow you to stay safe away from the traffic and will also protect the safety of other people using the road.
Get everyone out
It is important when you breakdown on the road that you get yourself and your family out of the car and out of harm’s way as soon as possible. This is because you never know what is wrong with your vehicle and it could be dangerous to stay sitting inside it as you wait for assistance. Instead, you can get out and wait for help to come.
Call for help
Now is the time where you should call someone to come and help you out of the mess you are in. A lot of the time you can find numbers for breakdown services and such in your car manual so check here first. If you don’t have any numbers in here you can either search for them online if you are able, or call a family member and get them to do it for you. Depending on the severity of the situation you may also call the police.
Wait in a safe place
Now that you are out of the car and you’ve called someone for help, it is time to get in safe place and wait for help to arrive. If there is a grassy area at the side of the road, it is advisable for you to wait here because then you are less likely to be hit by passing cars.
Get the car fixed up
When it comes to being picked up, if you already looked at Car Trailers for Sale or hire and you have one at home, you can ask a friend to use this to pick you up and take your straight to a repair garage. If not, the car will be taken to a garage for you and you’ll be able to get it all fixed up and looking like new. This could cost a lot of money depending on the accident so make sure that you check for any claims with your insurance company and see if you can get the repairs paid for.
