Why Being an Adult Doesn’t Suck
October 7, 2019
Any working adult knows that life can be incredibly draining at times. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is to attend that conference, meet all of those people and pretend to be interested in what they say.
Adulting is hard at times because you have all of this added responsibility that you were ignorant to as a kid- paying bills is boring, having to go to work every day SUCKS- having to avoid small talk with the neighbor is not just a mission, it’s almost a calling now.
You might not want to get up and go to work every day, but your to-do list is getting longer by the minute and you really just need to get on with it, because deadlines call and ARGH! Stop. Push that momentary push button switch for a second and take a moment to breathe. Nobody is truly at their best or most effective when wound up and tired.
Of course, there are the parts of adulting that your younger self dreamt of that you should learn to take advantage of again- even if it is just to appease the voice of childhood you in your head.
Here are some brilliant things to remind you why being an adult is actually pretty awesome.
You Create The Rules
Candy for breakfast? Why the hell not. You bought it, you EARNED it. Don’t want to eat a vegetable today? Nobody’s judging.
Adulthood and having access to your own money means you get to make the rules. Maybe you live alone- eat whenever you want, too. This is the part where most kids who are forced to eat broccoli at dinner time look forward to the most. Embrace it. Deal with consequences later!
Want to spend some extra time this evening unwinding? Play video games, because we all know the nuking zombies is the ultimate relaxation tool.
You Earn Your Own Money
As a kid, getting an allowance was pretty cool, don’t get us wrong, but that money didn’t always stretch far once your weekly candy was bought, and that movie hired. Of course, there was always Christmas and birthday money to look forward to, but it’s just not the same.
Here is where adulthood is awesome. Yeah, sure, your job may suck, but you’re not doing it for free! Woohoo!
No More School!
‘Every day is a school day’ Pshh, no it’s not. You’re not confined to spending time with people you don’t like for several hours a day, listening to someone telling you what to do all the time.
OK, sure, some jobs are like that, granted– but unlike school, if your ob sucks, you have the option of just getting up and leaving if you want.
You Can Drive
Probably the most awesome thing about being an adult is having the opportunity to take to the road whenever you want.
You don’t have to rely on others to take you where you want to go, whenever you need to get there.
In short, Adulthood isn’t so bad after all, is it?
