You're Spending Way Too Much On Your Marketing Strategy!

June 6, 2018

Marketing strategies get a lot of coverage these days. It feels like everyone is talking about different marketing strategies and how you can promote your business as effectively as possible. Then, you see headlines that talk about big companies spending loads of money on massive marketing campaigns. There’s so much coverage that it leads small business owners to believe they’ve got to pay big bucks to run a successful campaign.
As it turns out, you don’t need to spend a bucketload on marketing, and you’re more than likely spending way too much! To illustrate this point, here are a few things you’re spending loads of money on that can easily be much cheaper.

Hiring A Digital Marketing Team

All companies need to run a digital marketing campaign, and most small businesses assume this means bringing in a team of experts. While this will definitely help you, a lot of companies spend way too much money by outsourcing or hiring individuals. Instead, you can save some cash by taking online digital marketing courses and learning these skills for yourself. It puts you in a position to take control of your own marketing efforts and means you don’t have to hire loads of experts. This is particularly useful for tiny businesses where you don’t have a huge budget, and can dramatically lower your expenses.

Purchasing Loads Of Adverts

Adverts come in all shapes and sizes – and in different formats too! The big mistake you’re making is that you’re spending lots of money on adverts that just aren’t very effective. A good advert can help generate loads of leads, but it all depends on your business and your target market. Is there any point paying for TV adverts if you know your target market isn’t likely to watch much TV? Similarly, you may think online ads are the way forward, but what if your core demographic is elderly and won’t spend time online? The main takeaway is that you should think about your target audience before you start spending loads of money on adverts. Only spend money on things that you know will reach your target audience and present opportunities for you. For some companies, this might mean you don’t even bother to buy any ads and focus more on inbound marketing as this is what works best for you!

Paying For A Dying Strategy

Finally, we have something many small business owners are guilty off; paying for a marketing strategy that’s very clearly dead or dying. What this means is that you initiate a strategy, spend money making it work, and continue to spend money for years on end. What’s wrong with this? Well, the chances of a strategy lasting many years is highly unlikely. More often than not, you need to alter the way you do things to keep up with current trends and ensure your strategy isn’t outdated. So, if you continue to pay for something that’s old and not working, then it’s just a massive waste of money!
Make no mistake about it; you’ll probably have to spend some money on a marketing campaign. However, don’t spend too much by doing any of the things mentioned above. Reduce your spendings, and widen your profit margins.
